Welcome To Nursery
Autumn Term
In September, we welcome back our returning children and welcome lots of new friends too! We have lots of fun as we make friends, settle in to Nursery life and try out lots of new and exciting opportunities!
We begin the term with an exploration of Autumn! We watch and observe the seasonal changes, looking out for the signs around us and noticing colour changes in nature. We have lots of fun outdoors hunting for Autumn treasures and singing songs about this time of year, exploring rhythm and rhyme as part of our early phonics learning!
Our key text is Olivers Vegetables by Vivian French, we have a Greengrocers role play and we also make soup for Harvest festival, to share with our friends!
After half-term, Light and Dark becomes the focus of our learning! We learn about cultural festivals that take place during this time of year and explore light and dark as the weather gets colder and the evenings darker! Our Nursery calendar is full of celebrations, including Divali, Bonfire Night and Christmas, and we even have our own light party! We also look for and study patterns and shapes in the environment. We have fun playing instruments and perform for our friends.
Throughout the term, we follow and develop children's interests as they emerge, through planning and provision. This allows children to explore and develop these interests in greater depth within a range of contexts.
Spring Term
We begin the new year by welcoming new friends to our class and settling back in after the Christmas break. We think about our hopes and wishes for the year, and how we can make them come true!
Our first focus for the Spring term is 'Superheroes'! We learn all about the real-life superheroes in our community and what they do. We enjoy taking on the role of some of these heroes, building small-world communities with the people who help us, and we even have a visit from some NHS heroes! We finish our focus with a special superhero week, based on the Supertato book - including some Evil Pea science experiments!
After the half-term holiday, we enter the exciting world of Fairy Tales! We explore a number of traditional fairy tales and engage in a variety of activities to introduce us to these stories and better understand the key events and characters. In both the indoor and outdoor provision we use the resources on offer to retell these stories in a number of ways. We continue our story theme with some exciting World Book Day celebrations too!
We build on our phonics awarness by listeing to sounds in the environment and singing songs to practice rhythm, rhyme and repetition.
Throughout the term, we follow and develop children's interests as they emerge, through planning and provision. This allows children to explore and develop these interests in greater depth within a range of contexts.
Summer Term
We welcome our final Nursery starters for the year at the start of the summer term!
We begin with a 'Springtime on the Farm' topic. We learn more about which animals are born and live on the farm, exploring planting and growing and even watch the journey from egg to chick within our Nursery classroom. We learn about foods that come from the farm and play in our Farm Shop role-play area! Springtime is a very exciting time on the farm and we have lots of fun learning all about what happens at this time of year!
In our final half-term, our learning focuses on the seaside as we look towards the summer holiday! We enjoy serving our friends in the ice-cream shop, using shells and other natural beach resources to create transient art, and writing post cards to our families. We finish the year with a Sports day and a party to celebtrate all the fun we have had, all the friends we have made and all the new things we have learnt at Nursery!
Throughout the term, we follow and develop children's interests as they emerge, through planning and provision. This allows children to explore and develop these interests in greater depth within a range of contexts.
