Governor Impact and Effectiveness Statement 2024-2025
The Governing Body of Broadgate Primary School is fully committed to its core strategic roles and works diligently to support and challenge the school leadership to ensure the best possible outcomes for all pupils.
1. Ensuring Clarity of Vision, Ethos, and Strategic Direction
The Governing Body has played an active role in shaping the school’s vision and values, ensuring they reflect high expectations, inclusivity, and a strong focus on pupil wellbeing. Governors worked with the Local Authority to appoint Sarah Qualtrough as the new Headteacher (from January 2025) and the new Deputy Headteacher, Jake Tyrrell (from April 2025). Governors have subsequently worked with the school’s new leadership team to ensure that school development plan priorities are reviewed and approved. Governors regularly revisit the school’s strategic priorities and ensure they are aligned with national and local education policies, as well as the needs of the school community.
2. Holding Executive Leaders to Account for Educational Performance
Governors demonstrate rigorous oversight of the school’s performance through regular meetings, data analysis, and monitoring visits. The Headteacher and the Chair of Governors (Stacey Lalande) have a highly effective working relationship. Link governors are assigned to key areas such as safeguarding, SEND, and curriculum, and they report back regularly to the full governing body. Through questioning and challenge, governors hold senior leaders to account for pupil progress and outcomes. In May 2024, Ofsted recognised Broadgate’s governance to be ‘a strength of the school’.
3. Overseeing Financial Performance to Ensure Effective Use of Resources
The governing body’s Resources Committee meets regularly to monitor budget performance and ensure value for money. Governors scrutinise spending decisions and ensure that funds are used effectively to support the school’s priorities. Additionally, governors play a key role in overseeing premises improvement projects, ensuring that they are delivered within budget and aligned with the school’s health and safety requirements.
Conclusion
Broadgate’s Governing Body is an active, informed, and strategic team that makes a strong contribution to the success of the school. Through robust monitoring, professional dialogue, and strategic oversight, governors help ensure that all pupils receive the highest quality of education in a safe, inclusive, and aspirational environment.
