Welcome To Nursery

Autumn Term

In September, we welcome our new starters and welcome back our returning children! We have lots of fun as we make friends, settle in to Nursery life and try out lots of new and exciting opportunities! Together, we learn more about ourselves and one another as we all  become part of our Nursery group!

We begin our new term learning about colour, patterns and shape. Our key text is Oliver's Vegetables and we have a Greengrocers' role play area where we explore real vegetables. We enjoy Harvest Festival by mkaing soup for all of our EYFS friends.
We explore colour in the environment as we watch as Summer becomes Autumn. We look at 'I see a song' by Eric Carle which helps us think about how we can make marks and create paintings using shapes, colours and lines. We danced to music from around the world and painted at the same time.

We have lots of fun learning new rhymes and songs and explore our reading area which contains books about our interests, our favourite books, topic books and puppets to act out and retell stories.

After half-term, we extend and develop our learning about Autumn by learning about light and dark. Our key texts are How to Catch a Star and Whatever Next! Our Nursery calendar is also full of celebrations during this time of year, including Diwali, Bonfire Night and Christmas!

Throughout the term, we follow and develop children's interests as they emerge, through planning and provision. This allows children to explore and develop these interests in greater depth within a range of contexts.

Spring Term

We begin the new year by welcoming new friends to our class and settling back in after the Christmas break. We think about our hopes and wishes for the year, and how we can make them come true!

Our first focus for the Spring term is 'When I Grow Up'! We learn more about our local community and the different jobs that people do. We think about what we would like to be when we grow up and take on the roles of different people from our community as we play! We even have a special visitor from our local community to teach us more about what they do!

After the half-term holiday, we enter the magical world of stories! We explore a number of different interesting stories and engage in a variety of activities to support our learning, which helps us to better understand the key events and characters. In both the indoor and outdoor provision, we use the resources on offer to retell these stories in a number of ways. We continue our story theme with some exciting World Book Day celebrations too!

We think about lots of celebrations from around the world this term including Chinese New Year, Easter and Ramadan.

Throughout the term, we follow and develop children's interests as they emerge, through planning and provision. This allows children to explore and develop these interests in greater depth within a range of contexts.

Summer Term

We welcome our final Nursery starters for the year at the start of the summer term!

We begin our learning with an ‘In the Garden’ and 'On the Farm' topic. As we enjoy playing outdoors in the warmer weather, we look out for the signs of Spring and Summer around us and enjoy looking closely at nature at this time of year. We learn about how caterpillars become butterflies by observing our own caterpillar cocoons! We also enjoy looking for minibeasts as we spend time in the fresh Spring air outside!

In our final half-term, our learning focuses on journeys as we look towards the summer holidays and the places that we might go! We enjoy learning about our world and holidays as we work in our very own travel agents! For our friends who will soon start Reception, we learn lots about starting school in preparation for September. We finish the year with a Sports day and a party to celebtrate all of the fun we have had, all the friends we have made and all the new things we have learnt at Nursery!

Throughout the term, we follow and develop children's interests as they emerge, through planning and provision. This allows children to explore and develop these interests in greater depth within a range of contexts.
