What's happening in Year 4 ........
Year 4 are learning...
all about the digestive system and teeth...
We will look in detail at the human digestive system and then focus on our teeth. We will complete investigations into how different liquids affect our teeth and how we can prevent tooth decay.
all about animals and their food chains...
We will look closely at different predators and prey. We will investiagte how animals use their environments to hunt and catch.
all about the Tudors...
We will begin our topic with a Tudor themed day looking at Tudor portraits and listening to a range of different genres of music from the period. Throughout our learning we will explore how the Tudors came to power at the Battle of Bosworth Hill and why Henry VIII decided to marry on six separate occasions.
all about The Iron Man and Diary of a Killer Cat...
These two books will influence our English learning during the term. We will begin by looking closely at the text The Iron Man by Ted Hughes and compare the film The Iron Giant to his origional character. Using the Diary of a Killer Cat text by Anne Fine, we will write our own diary entries from the perspective of an animal.
all about numbers...
In Maths we will be learning about place value, the four rules of number, fractions and shape. Children will continue to improve their fluency of times tables and complete weekly times table challenges.
all about swimming...
Year 4 will attend swimming lessons each week and make progress towards a range of awards.

Year 4 Class Information
PE
Year 4 have PE on a Monday. Children should come to school in black/grey tracksuit bottoms/ joggers/ leggings and a white t-shirt and school jumper.
Year 4 will go for their weekly swimming lessons on a Tuesday (Y4D) and a Wednesday (Y4H). Children should come to school wearing their swimming costume underneath their clothes. They should wear black/grey tracksuit bottoms/joggers and a school top and jumper. They will require a bag to put all of their clothes inside.
HOMEWORK
Maths and English homework is set on a Friday and due in the following Thursday.
Spellings to learn and practise are given on a Friday, with a test the following Friday.
Year 4 children are expected to read regularly at home and record their reading in their reading record.
