Welcome to Year 3!

This term, Year 3 will be learning about...

In Maths this term we will be revising place value and mental strategies for addition and subtraction. We will also be learning about 2D and 3D shapes and their properties. The children will be practising their 2, 5, 10 and 3 times tables, as well as learning fractions of amounts and shapes.

In English we will be focussing on spelling and handwriting. The children are studying the story of The Magic Faraway Tree and we will be using this to rewrite their own fantasy story. We will also be looking at different styles of poetry and writing our own Halloween and Firework poems. Later in the term, we will be reading and writing instructions and finishing by writing a letter to Santa.

In Science, we have been learning about light and dark. We will be exploring light sources, reflection and shadows. The children will be carrying out investigations and making their own shadow puppets.

Our topic this term is ancient Egypt. In History we will be learning about Tutankhamun, Pharaohs and gods and godesses. The children will be excited to find out how the ancient Egyptian process of mummification happened! In Geography we will be researching the country of Egypt and its geographical features.

In Art we will be using clay to make our own Egyptian cartouches. We will also be studying Kandinsky and making our own artwork on concentric circles by colour mixing.
